The Technical University of Dresden (TU Dresden) is one of the oldest and greatest in Germany. With about 50.000 students, it offers more than engineering and natural science classes. The range of research opportunities and courses offered by TU is extremely broad. At it`s 14 campuses, students can enrol in courses in economics, medicine, humanities, social sciences and more. In total more than 100 different courses of study. Dresden is also one of the academic centres in Germany.
Because of the huge university system there are great libraries in Dresden.

Dresden has all types of transportation. In addition to street cars, busses, and highways, there are an airport, train stations, and several ports.
In May 2004, the European Union expanded its borders by adding ten new member countries, mostly from Eastern Europe. As a result Dresden went from a border city to a central city of Europe.
It is only a short trip from Dresden to exciting cities like Leipzig, Berlin, and Prague.
Dresden has many opportunities for athletes to practise, train, exercise, or just play. There are about 300 sport clubs with facilities for almost 70 different sports. There are also many stadiums and sports arenas.

Dresden’s baroque panorama is framed by a breathtaking landscape on the banks of the Elbe River. Dresden and its river draws thousands of tourists every year. Not only the city of Dresden is attractive, the surrounding areas are also wonderful.
A special attraction is the Elbe valley. Since 2005 it belongs to the world Cultural Inheritance, protected by the United Nations.



The Dresden White Fleet is one of the oldest and greatest recreational steamer fleets in the world. The fleet also includes paddle steamers. Boat trips with these skips are just unique and romantic.
During a small excursion you have the possibility to get to know the country and the people. Dresden’s surrounding area offers many museums, monuments, palaces, castles, gardens and parks. These attractions give you insight into the history, geology and geography of the region.


Highly recommended, and also sometimes part of class, are trips to the Sandstein mountain range (Elbsandsteingebirge) along the Elbe, with the nickname “Saxonian Switzerland” (Sächsische Schweiz). The unique landscape provides many possibilities for hiking or rock climbing.

The Saxonian Wine Road, the Erzgebirge, and the Zittauer Mountains are also situated nearby Dresden and offer many possibilities for day or weekend trips.
